Guest Reviews: Searching for Someday by Jennifer Probst, Facade by Nyrae Dawn and Ruby Hill by Sarah Ballance

Jessica, my guest reviewer, has another batch of contemporary romance books to share her thoughts on!

Goodreads Summary:

Kate has given up on love—at least for herself. She is both blessed and cursed with the ability to sense a romantic connection between two people—a gift that her family passed down for generations. When Kate launches her own matchmaking company, Kinnection, with her two best friends in a cozy New York town, she has to put aside her own romantic disasters to make her business a success.

But when a furious man stalks into her office and accuses her business of being a scam, Kate is given the ultimate challenge to prove herself. Slade puts himself in her hands and asks Kate to find him love. Enraged at his arrogance but stubbornly eager to prove herself, Kate agrees, dedicating herself to the journey of finding him love...only to find herself falling for him along the way.

Jessica's Review:

4.5 stars. I loved this story although it drove me nuts how on again and off again Kate and Slave were. Don't get me wrong, I knew there would be conflict, but sleeping together and then setting him up with another date was just too much.

Goodreads Summary:

Can love save them?

After her father commits a crime that shatters her family, eighteen-year-old Delaney Cross is tired of pretending everything is all right. Packing up her car, she sets out to find the people her father hurt. Her search leads her to places she’s never been—and into the arms of Adrian Westfall.

To the outside world, Adrian is a sexy, charming ladies’ man. But his playboy persona is just an act. Secretly his soul is tortured by a memory too painful to share. Only Delaney seems to see through his façade to the real man underneath. And for the first time in his life, Adrian feels he can begin to open up about his past.

Together, Adrian and Delaney share a passionate love they never expected to find. Yet both still harbor their own secrets. When the dark truth is finally revealed, will it bring them closer together—or tear them apart forever?

Jessica's Review:

5 stars. This was such a heartbreaking and beautiful story. The characters were real, the story was real, and the emotions were so intense and heartfelt that it just sucked the reader right in. Loved it.

Goodreads Summary:

From her earliest memories, Ashley Pearce has been drawn to Ruby Hill Lunatic Asylum, and she's not the only one. Decades after the abandoned hospital ended its institutional reign of torture and neglect, something lurks in the shadows. Since she’s a paranormal investigator, it's Ashley's job to find out what.

Crime scene expert Corbin Malone doesn't believe in ghosts. A born skeptic, he has no interest in entertaining the hype surrounding the mysterious deaths at Ruby Hill, but he won't turn his back while more women die. He agrees to an overnight investigation, never expecting his first encounter would be with the woman he pushed away a year ago. But when he discovers Ashley is a target, he learns his greatest fear isn't living with his own demons, but losing her for good.

Jessica's Review:

2.5 stars. This was a super short story that would have been better and creepier had there been more detail, more history of the asylum, and better character development. Not sure if its part of a series or not, but it definitely felt rushed and like I was dropped in the middle of a story.

Thanks to the publishers for copies of these books for review!
