Friday Book Blog Hops #11

Q: What writing device or trick most irritates you when reading a book? For example, if an author employs an omnipotent narrator that is sometimes considered bad form.

That's definitely a toughie. I guess too many points of views in a novel drives me a little up the wall. Switching between two narrators is one thing, but head hopping an entire novel makes it hard for me to connect with the characters.

1. How did you find out about book blogging and what made you decide to start one yourself?

 

When I first started my blog, it was mainly to promote my first book. I figured it would be a good way to talk about my writing and upcoming events for my novel. However, I started connecting with some other book blogs and found that I enjoyed talking about books as much as discussing my writing. I now try to do a mix of book reviews, memes, writing tips and promo posts.

Q: What are you reading right now? How do you like it?

I usually read a couple of books at a time, but right now I'm only reading What's Left of Me by Kat Zhang. It's okay so far, a little slow moving, but it seems like it should pick up soon. Up next is Bronya by Jo Michaels and Iron Daughter by Julie Kagawa.

What book series do you never want to see end?

Wow, that's a tough one since I usually like series to have a finite beginning and end. Did the Babysitter's Club ever have a final book? My other thought would be maybe the Morganville Vampires by Rachel Caine.

Q: Worst cover? What is the worst cover of a book that you've read and loved?

I guess I would have to say Helper 12 by Jack Blaine. This is one of the better YA novels I read when I went through a major dystopian book phase (who didn't after the Hunger Games?). The story had a little bit of mystery, forbidden romance and suspense. However, the cover is sort of blah for me.

 

The  TGIF at GReads poses a blogger question and asks you to summarize the posts for the weeks.

Back to School Reading: Which books would you like to see 

in today's high school Literature classrooms? 

Although I am a fan of classic literature, it would be interesting to see a few current novels in schools. A couple of picks off the top of my head would include The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time by Mark Haddon, The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson, Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry and the Fault in Our Stars by John Green.

What is your favorite thing about blogging?

I started blogging initially to promote my book, but it soon became much more than that. I found I really loved talking about books with other passionate readers. It also became a platform to share writing tips and also discuss the process of publishing and marketing a book. The blogger community is a great place to meet other writers and readers and form lasting virtual friendships.
