Imperfectly Perfect was a cute romance with a friends that become lovers premise. There was a lot of “will they or won’t they?” angst between Shane and Emma and the reader is taken on a fun ride to Emma’s happily ever after.
Emma lives with three guys who she has been friends with for forever. The guys were all great, but Shane definitely stole my heart. He’s sweet and caring and the chapters told from his POV were my favorite in the book.
I would’ve really loved this book if it weren’t for Emma. I didn’t like her from the beginning and unfortunately her character never won me over. I think it mostly came from her unwarranted female hate. I get that she related more to the boys and in her words liked to drink beer and watch sports like guys instead of thinking of love and romance like women (a condescending depiction in itself). She was quick to label women as bimbos with no justification whatsoever. For a sexually confident character, it made no sense and came off as hypocritical. On a side note, the cover is cute, but for some reason I feel like the girl looks much too young to portray Emma’s thirty.
The pacing of the novel was good and I enjoyed the author’s writing style. The characters’ emotions really jumped off of the page and it was interesting to read both Emma and Shane’s take on the development of their relationship. It was sweet to read about how much Shane truly loved her.
The ending tied everything up nicely and although it’s a series, it can be read as a standalone. The next book is Tyler’s story and since he was also a great character, it should be a good read.
