AUTHOR BIO
J. A. Huss likes to write new adult books that make you think and keep you guessing. Her favorite genre to read is space opera, but since practically no one reads those books, she writes new adult science fiction, paranormal romance, contemporary romance, urban fantasy, and books about Junco (who refuses to be saddled with a label).

She has an undergraduate degree in horses, (yes, really–Thank you, Colorado State University) and a master’s degree in forensic toxicology from the University of Florida. She used to have a job driving around Colorado doing pretty much nothing but shooting the breeze with farmers, but now she just writes, runs the New Adult Addiction and Clean Teen Reads Book Blogs, and runs an online science classroom for homeschoolers.

Manic Review:

This was a ridiculously good and entertaining sequel to Tragic. I liked learning more about the characters and I loved the introduction of my new favorite character: Ford. This book had more of everything: more angst, more men and more sex.

What I love about this series is that it’s unlike anything that I’ve read before. The author doesn’t stick to a formula and I never know what to expect as I turn the pages. The characters in the series are flawed, but it makes them relatable and adds realism to the plot.

The plot picks up soon after the end of Tragic with Rook beginning to fulfill her duties as a body paint model for Spencer. The shoots are super hot and don’t always involve Ronin, something that the couple struggles with. Ronin is also trying to help his friend get over a heroin addiction and has to leave the studio for days on end. This causes Rook to spend more time with a frenemy of Ronin’s named Ford who is also a producer for Spencer’s reality show.

Rook and Ronin have amazing chemistry together and the sex scenes were super hot. I do still like Ronin, but I have to say that Ford is an awesome addition to the series. I feel like I’m cheating on my man Ronin, but Ford was sexy, interesting and mysterious. Not to mention I have a very personal connection with Asperger’s syndrome and understand how people misunderstand the behaviors associated with the disorder.

The climax was exciting and I was surprised by some of the twists the author had in store, including revelations about Ronin’s past. I am anxiously awaiting the final book to see how everything turns out for the characters.
