I'm not going to post official release dates for the rest of the books since I still have a large chunk of them to write. I will give you a teaser though (unedited) of Declan's spin-off book. This will have spoilers if you haven't read the final Second Sight book.

Before he could ask Kate her opinion on the case, she shoved him hard. His back slammed into the brick siding of the restaurant. He glared down at her as she twisted her lips into a hateful expression. “What the hell was that?”

“What are you talking about?” He held up his hands in front of his body. “I told you what she wanted. Not every case is going to be about someone missing.”

“That’s not what I’m talking about and you know it. You’ve been a bastard since yesterday and just embarrassed me in front of a client.”

“You’re the one who kicked me and made a scene. I was joking with you, it’s how we always are.” Kate opened her mouth to retort, but he rallied on. “I don’t know why you’re so sensitive about getting married to Jared. Maybe it’s a mental problem. Have you talked to your mom about it? Maybe your parents’ divorce has given you commitment issues.”

“Or maybe you’re just a dick. Yes, we always rag on each other, but this was different. You called me fat and made fun of my ring.”

“You act like such a girl sometimes. I always tease you about how much you eat and your relationship with Jared. Stop being so uptight.”

“We’ve been friends for a while now and I know you, Dec. I know when you’re messing with me and when something else is going on. You’re not happy about the engagement.”

“Christ Kate, leave it alone. My life doesn’t revolve around you and your convoluted love life. I said I’m happy for you. What else do you want? Should I throw a parade in your honor? Offer to give you away at the wedding?”

Kate took an uncertain step away from him. “No. I thought you would be my friend and Jared’s friend. I thought you would be a decent human being and realize I’m finally happy after almost losing Jared. I can’t change what happened between me and you, but if you can’t deal with it, then maybe we should reconsider a partnership.”

Declan stared over her head into the parking lot. “We’re good. I swear. Maybe my jokes were tasteless, but I didn’t mean anything by then. We make a good team and it would be stupid to walk away from what we started to build together.”

Kate stared at him for a long moment, apparently weighing whether to accept his half-hearted apology or walk away for good. “Fine, but our business needs ground rules.”

“What kind of rules?”

“For one, no sleeping with the clients.” Declan’s jaw dropped as Kate continued on. “Don’t give me that look. I saw the way you were looking at Jenna and picturing her with no clothes on. We can’t have you scorning women who have come to us for help.”

Declan thought it was a stupid rule, but his relationship with Kate was shaky at the minute. He would give her this to appease her. Making their business a success was more important than sleeping with the clients.

“Fine. My rule is to stop hitting me. If we’re working together, I can’t be worried about your violent urges.”

Kate rolled her eyes. “What can I say? You bring out the worse in me.”

First Visions:

Belated One Year Book Birthday to First Visions! On Sale for 99 Cents All Week

I'm a little late, but I realized First Visions: Second Sight Book One turned one a few weeks back on April 27. I can't believe it's only been a year since I published the first in the series. Since then, I released two sequels and my new adult contemporary The Disappearing Girl. I also signed with Crescent Moon Press to publish my upcoming Memory Witch.

Thank you to all my readers! I can't believe how much support I've received as an unknown author. The indie author and book blogger communities are amazing and I'm so proud to be part of them both. To celebrate, I've discounted First Visions to 99 cents through May 26.

Music Monday: Dark Premonitions: Second Sight Book Three Soundtrack

Today, I'm sharing the songs that inspired the third book in the Second Sight series. I've put explanations next to a few of the picks. If you've read Dark Premonitions, then you'll probably be able to guess the meaning behind the rest.

Screaming Infidelities by Dashboard Confessional-I love this band! I thought this song was appropriate because fidelity has been a theme that's run through all three of the books.

Seal My Fate by Belly-Fate is another thing that I touch upon in Dark Premonitions. Has Kate's fate been sealed and is she simply waiting to die? Or can her destiny be changed?

Little Talks by Monsters and Men-This song is perfect for the scenes that take place at Aunt Lizzie's house in Maine. Kate and Jared both miss each other, but they're having a hard time getting over the past.

Umbrella by Marie Digby-Although I love Rhianna's version too, this one is a personal fave. The line: "Said I'll always be a friend, Took an oath I'm a stick it out till the end"goes back to Jared's promise of friendship since the first book.

That's What You Get by Paramore-This is another song about getting through the hurt caused by both Jared and Kate's actions.

Trouble Is a Friend by Lenka-Kate starts to feel the threat of the person who wants her dead and she feels him closing in on her throughout Dark Premonitions.

I Will Survive by Cake-This is such a cool version of the classic. Kate decides not to just let death come for her and she figures out ways to fight back.

Second Sight Book Four FAQs

Since the release of Dark Premonitions last week, I received some questions about the fourth book of the series. Warning! The following does contain spoilers from the third book, so don't continue if you have yet to read it.

When will Second Sight Book Four be released?

I don't have a firm date yet, but most likely it'll come out in early September.

How many books are in the series?

Second Sight Book Four will be the final novel in the series. I have been tossing around the idea of a prequel novella that takes place during the time Kate went into the coma and awoke with her powers. However, the fourth book will most likely be released first.

Is Kate dead?

She's dead-ish, lol. The final scene with Jared's mother takes place in the inbetween. The book will open where the third book left out and readers will find out Rose Corbett's role in everything that has happened to Kate and Jared up to this point.

Will Declan still come between Kate and Jared?

Declan is going to play a pivotal role in the final book. Jared and Declan team up to find out who attacked Kate and develop a sort of shaky friendship.

Will Kate and Jared EVER have sex? (This one is actually from my hubby hehe.)

There are a few love scenes in Second Sight Book Four and since it's been building up for so long, they have to be epic, right?

Happy Hump Day All! A few updates on my projects today:

Dark Premonitions: Second Sight Book Three will be released on March 7! It’s my birthday, so I’m very excited that the book is going to be ready on time. It will be available through Amazon.com, BN.com and Smashwords.

First Visions is going to be available through Barnes and Noble and Smashwords once again starting February 23. I’m enrolled in KDP Select for New Revelations until April 1, but if you’re a Nook user, you can email me for a review copy in the meantime (woodtop255@yahoo.com).

Memory Witch (Memory Witch #1) has been undergoing edits by the staff of Crescent Moon Press. Once I have a release date, I’ll be posting that information. Everyone at the publishing house has been great and I’ve enjoyed the couple of books I read so far from other CMP authors.

As a bonus, here’s a quick excerpt from Dark Premonitions. Jared and Kate are having dinner with Jared’s aunt while away in Maine =)

Kate sent a swift kick under the table in Jared’s direction. He let out a choked guffaw as she glared at him. As Lizzie and William commenced eating, Jared was unsuccessfully trying to contain his laughter. His hand moved under the table and grabbed her leg before she could assault him again. His fingers trailed up to her knee and squeezed it. Her fork froze midway to her mouth. Instead of releasing her knee, his thumb grazed over thigh. She was suddenly regretting her decision to wear black pants instead of a skirt.

Jared eyebrows shot up as he watched her carefully across the table. She felt his hand start to move away. Her hand darted under the table and she held it in place. His hand inched away from her knee and landed on her thigh. He kneaded her leg and she could feel her pulse quickening the longer he touched her. Her skin was on fire as he maneuvered his fingers to her inner thigh. She was squirming and wondered if Jared could see by her expression the crazed frenzy he was working her into.

Excerpt from New Revelations: Second Sight Book Two

Blood blanketed Kate’s body. It soaked through her tank top and turned the formerly tan shirt a deep shade of crimson. She had lost consciousness for an undetermined amount of time and knew she probably only had minutes left until she blacked out again.

Panic was setting in, she pushed it away. Her chest wound was bleeding the most. She attempted to use her hands to put pressure on it. Maybe if she could slow down the bleeding, she would have half a chance. She tried not to think about the possibility of her attacker returning to make sure the job was finished. Kate hoped the sound of the car pulling into the driveway had scared him off.

The car door. Someone had arrived at the house before she passed out, she realized with a start. She had thought it was her mother, but she would have found Kate by now. As she tried to focus on her surroundings, she could barely make out a muffled voice calling her name from outside of the house.

Kate tried to respond, tears from the pain ran down her cheeks. The fear of death seemed to be holding her frozen. Her screams sounded like whimpers and there would be no way the sound would travel to her potential savior from her huddled form on the kitchen floor all the way through the front door. Her own blood was choking her and the hopelessness of her situation threatened her grip on sanity. Kate was a pop culture fanatic—she knew that in the movies blood gushing out of the mouth usually meant the character was a goner.

Kate summoned the last of the strength in her broken body and attempted to crawl through the darkness towards the front of the house. The kitchen floor was sticky with a mixture of blood and the Diet Coke she had dropped earlier. Her entire body cried out with each movement she made, but she forced herself to go farther. It felt like miles as she traveled only inches and she prayed that whoever was knocking at the door would not give up and leave.

Kate made it as far as the doorway separating the hallway and kitchen. Her body collapsed and she whined as she realized that she was only a few feet from the front door. The doorbell rang again and the injustice of her predicament set in. She was going to bleed out all over her mother’s Persian carpet and wait alone while the life slowly seeped out of her. Help was within reach, but still so far away. This was never the way she imagined she would die.

New Revelations: Second Sight Book Two Soundtrack

Today I'm presenting the soundtrack to New Revelations: Second Sight Book Two. I'll include a couple of notes on a few of the songs that won't give away any spoilers. Readers of the book will definitely know the meaning behind the rest.

Home by Philip Philips-This would be the theme song for New Revelations. Not only do I love the song, but I adore the lyrics. I think they apply to Kate and her journey in the second novel.

Diamonds by Rihanna-This song reminds me of Jared and Kate's relationship at the start of the book.

Got You (Where I Want You) by The Flys-I couldn't pick a better song to represent Declan. Every time, he was in a scene with Kate this song would play in my head.

I Will Wait by Mumford & Sons-A beautiful song by this AMAZING band. Another one that reminds me of Kate and Jared.

Falling Slowly from the Once Soundtrack

Run by Snow Patrol-This song always makes me feel sad after hearing it. It would play during what I consider one of the most heartbreaking scenes in the novel.

How would you say Kate has grown from book one to book two?

 

Kate was sort of a brat at the start of the first book. She’s unhappy about being psychic and feels it makes her an outcast in her town. At the end of the first book, she has an epiphany and realizes being psychic is a gift that allows her to help others. Kate’s growth continues into New Revelations, but her insistence on meddling in cases causes some problems in her personal relationships.

Now what can you tell us about Declan? He is a hot character, but hope he doesn't ruin Kate and Jared's relationship.

Declan is that guy your friends warn you about. He’s hot, arrogant and leaves behind a string of broken hearts. Kate feels there’s more to him than what’s on the surface and becomes friends with the psychic. Kate’s relationship with Jared becomes strained after Declan claims that she’s meant to be with him.

Can you give us readers a peak into New Revelations? Something that will make us want to get the book right away?

Kate meets another psychic and they decide to work together on several missing persons cases. This includes a five-year-old abducted from a shopping mall in Washington and a missing fitness instructor in her early twenties. Throughout the plot, I try to add in elements of suspense, humor and romance.

Are you planning on a third book? I hope so, the ending has a such a good cliff hanger.

Yes, the third book is completely outlined and I’m early on in the writing process. I’m hoping for an early 2013 release date. This may be overly ambitious, so don’t hold me to that.

Tackling NaNoWriMo

With the exception of living under a rock, if you're a writer, you've likely heard of National Novel Writing Month or NaNoWriMo. I was hesitant at first to commit to something like this since the gist involves writing approximately 2,000 words a day for 30 days. The goal is to have 50,000 words to your name by the end of the month. 

My hesitation came from November being a CRAZY month for me. I'll be promoting New Revelations through my blog tour, writing freelance articles and juggling the boys' hectic schedules. However, the more excuses I came up with, I decided to say hell with it and do it anyway. I'll either have to ease up on my blogging schedule or trim back on my article writing.

I'm a little bit on the fence about what to write as part of NaNoWriMo. Do I write the next book in the Second Sight series? Or would this be a good opportunity to start the first book in a new series I've been toying around with in my head?

Notes on New Revelations: Second Sight Book Two

After a long process, New Revelations is ready for previews. I'm really happy with how the book came out and my first reader (my husband lol) enjoyed the story immensely. Right now, my unofficial release date is October 9. This may be sooner or later depending on the hard work of my editor Trisha =)

Teaser Thursday-New Revelations: Second Sight Book Two

Sorry if I've been MIA lately, but I've been working like crazy to do the first round of edits on the next book in the Second Sight series-New Revelations: Second Sight Book Two. I finished last night and after doing the next round, it should be off to my editor by the weekend. In the meantime, here's a excerpt from the next book. This scene is when Kate meets the new psychic Declan Brayden for the first time.

“You have ten seconds to explain why the hell you’re following me before I scream rape and give you a mouthful of mace,” Kate threatened. Her breathing came out ragged and she could not stop the trembling as she gripped the container.  

The boy frowned and did not meet her eyes. “I'm so sorry I scared you. I guess I went about this whole thing the wrong way,” he mumbled.

Kate looked him over while still keeping her finger on the trigger. He was definitely rough around the edges and she felt she had just cause to be alarmed. A few scars were visible on his neck along with one at the edge of his full lips. Besides a tribal band on his left bicep, she noted a scorpion tattoo on his forearm. He was super muscular and she guessed he could easily knock her out before she even had the chance to think about making a run for it. She hated to judge a book by its cover, but this dude looked like he should be serving ten to twenty at the state pen.

“What the hell are you talking about?” she demanded when he didn’t elaborate on his statement.

“I’ve been following you.”

Kate fought down the urge to vomit when he uttered those words. What the heck were the chances she’d end up being targeted by another nut job in a month’s time? Did being psychic send out a mix of pheromones that attracted all the crazies in the Franklin area?

Before she could demand more answers, he continued, “It’s not as bad as it sounds. I’m like you.” Relaxing his stance and placing his hands in his pockets, he shot her a sheepish smile. It was crooked and certainly had the effect of reducing his threat level in her mind.

Her hazel eyes locked with his onyx eyes. “What do you mean you’re like me? You’re also obsessed with The Bachelor and have a fear of public restrooms?”

He let out a low chuckle. “No Kate, I’m psychic.”

New Revelations: Second Sight Book Two Summary

Today I'm sharing the summary for the next book in the Second Sight series. Hooray! I've been working hard on the sequel to First Visions and hope you guys enjoy it.

Life should’ve been perfect. Kate Edwards had won the heart of police detective Jared Corbett and was coming to terms with her psychic ability. Things were blissful—until the day she met Declan Brayden.

Declan also has psychic visions and wants to work alongside Kate. Kate doesn’t trust the damaged and arrogant seer, but she knows combining their abilities would allow her to help more people. This becomes vital when visions of a missing fitness instructor turn into a race against time to save the girl’s life.
