Q: Do you mind books with similar ideas to other books? Similar concepts, backgrounds, retellings or pulled-to-publish fanfic?
Maybe as an author I should be bothered more by this, but I'm actually not. I know some people are in the camp of get your own ideas to make millions off of, but I've enjoyed several books that are retellings of other novels. I think what's important about fan-fic inspired novels is that although they share similar concepts, they bring something new to the table as well.
From the Crazy for Books blog:
"The Book Blogger Hop is much more than just a “follow for a follow”. It’s about making friends. There are literally thousands of book bloggers around the world. It can seem like we are blogging in a bubble, constantly checking the same blogs over and over again. The Hop is about taking the time to make a quality visit to another blog, getting to know the person who is writing that blog, and seeing if you really *want* to follow that person!"
Every week is a chance to visit a new blog or more, find connections, and learn about new books to read! The Friday Book Blogger hop was gone for a while, but it's back and better than ever. I missed it and I'm happy to participate as we rotate hosts! I'll be hosting this week and next!
Is there a book series that you're not totally into, but still keep buying new releases because you love the covers?
Not currently, but I did keep up with the Wicked Lovely series partly because of the covers although I lost interest by the second book. I'm even tempted to by the sequel to Halo because of the cover although I didn't like the first book at all.

Maybe I misunderstood this question. But I took it to mean books with similar ideas and whatnot. Vampires saving the world is my example. Two completely different books yet with the same theme. I don't mind those.

I don't really mind either, if books have similar themes, as long as each book has a unique voice. For series with gorgeous covers - I wouldn't keep buying if I didn't like them - for me, it would be like throwing money away - money that could be spent buying a book I actually want to read.

Hopping through. I've only read the first Wicked Lovely book - I liked it. I'd like to read the others, partly because of the stunning covers.

I concur! Haha love that word. As long as there's some sort of twist or difference from the original story, I'm all for it. Thanks for stopping by my blog! Followed back. :)
